  • Accomplishments:

    Sheriff Tramel, whose career spans over 30 years, served as an elected three-term Sheriff, including President of the Florida Sheriffs Association, as Director of the Florida Sheriffs Association Statewide Task Force, as Director of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Division of Law Enforcement, including President of the Florida State Law Enforcement Chiefs Association, and as an investigator for the Offices of State Attorney, 2nd and 3rd Judicial Circuits of Florida, where he was assigned to the Theodore R. Bundy case. Before retiring from government and beginning his first consulting business, Tramel & Associates, LLC, Sheriff Tramel led many statewide efforts including the Florida Sheriffs Association Statewide Task Force, the Florida Environmental Crimes Strike Force, and the Florida Environmental Terrorism Response Team. He also conceived and directed many major statewide operations, two of which included Operation: Thunder Road, the largest statewide drug enforcement operation in the nation, and Operation: Green Lightning, the largest statewide environmental enforcement operation in the nation. He spearheaded many of the Florida Sheriffs Association successful legislative efforts during the 1990s, including the building of additional prisons, the expansion of prison capacities, the Truth in Sentencing law requiring all state prisoners to serve 85% of their sentences before being eligible for release, the creation of the Florida Department of
    Juvenile Justice, and the restoration of minimum mandatory sentences for violent offenders. He was awarded the Distinguished Leadership Award by his fellow Sheriffs for his commitment to justice.
