  • Why are there no alligators in the Ichetucknee River?

Once in a great while a gator may show up in the Ichetucknee but the Ichetucknee River is 72°F year-round, alligators like water temperatures between 82° to 92°F so the Ichetucknee river is just too cold for alligators to be happy. Also alligators like dark murky bottoms, not hard sand and rock. An alligator does much better in the Santa Fe, Suwannee, or lakes and ponds.
